Omega-3 & Osteoporosis
Omega-3 may help promote bone health. A larger intake of omega-3 fatty acid in the diet may reduce the risk of osteoporosis later in life, according the recent study titled “Effect of fish oil on bone mineral density in aging C57BL/6 female mice,” published in the June 2007 edition of The Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry.
Researchers studied mice over a six month time period and concluded that mice given fish oil supplements maintained a higher bone mass density compared to the control mice. While this study has not yet been proven in humans, the evidence has been mounting that omega-3 diets are important for bone health.
